Watch Party

The Story

During the TrueID hackathon in 2022, our team's project aimed to bring in a million users by making the watching experience better and giving users a place to connect and express themselves.

To get started, we looked at what's going on in the social media scene in Thailand, where people are really paying attention. We thought about how we can use TrueID's strengths as a streaming platform to jump into a new market and attract new users.

Role and Responsibility

As a product owner, my role was to handle everything from the start of the project to design, user validation, execution, testing, and eventual launch. In addition, I strategized financial feasibility, go-to-market tactics, and internal correspondence. My collaboration spanned multiple teams, including product, technical, marketing, content, and design.

Problem

"Even with many online friends, people still feel lonely and miss having real, meaningful conversations."

In the digital age, people often have an abundance of online friends across various platforms. However, this does not always translate into genuine, meaningful relationships. Many individuals continue to experience a sense of isolation and disconnection, underscoring the need for solutions that can enhance the depth and authenticity of digital interactions, bridging the gap between virtual connections and real-life relationships.

Product Concept

“Bring people’s interest to interact virtually”

Our proposed solution aims to bridge the gap of isolation and foster closer online connections by leveraging personalized streaming content. The idea revolves around creating a space where users can interact with content based on their individual interests. By combining the strengths of streaming content providers and social media, the platform allows users to share interests among friends.

User insights

We introduced a watch party feature, aiming not only for a smooth watching experience but also to align with human nature and Thai style. Based on user feedback, we relocated the microphone to the left-hand side, considering that not many people are left-handed,reducing accidental disruptions.

Winning the Hearts of Thai Users with a Fun Feature

Thai users enjoy fun settings, so we added sound effects to enhance the watching environment. This insight came from observing individual live streamers in Thailand who use sound effects to energize their audience.

Challenges

In our product design process, we have identified some limitations and concerns that might delay the project. Here are the challenges we've encountered and the solutions we've implemented.

Managing a scope that may be too broad or complex.

Balancing must-have features versus nice-to-have features

Difficulty in distinguishing the product from competitors

Narrowing down the MVP’s scope to focus on essential features while postponing additional functionalities could lead to potential limitations in user engagement and satisfaction. Balancing between what is essential and what can be deferred requires careful prioritization and planning.

Identifying and implementing the most critical features for interaction and user experience while excluding less essential ones poses a challenge. Deciding which features will provide the most value and ensure a smooth user experience in the MVP is crucial for meeting the project timeline.

Focusing initially on core features might affect the product’s ability to stand out in the market. Strategizing on how to effectively attract and retain customers with the MVP while planning for future unique features is essential for long-term success.

Key Takeaways

01

Considering Human Nature

I learned that understanding customer needs and preferences is crucial for designing products that enhance user experience and align with natural user behavior.

02

Adapting Customer Insights

I learned that leveraging industry-specific insights helps effectively respond to customer reactions and perceptions, ensuring the product meets the target audience’s expectations.

03

Prioritizing Focus

I learned that in the MVP phase, focusing on features with the most significant short-term impact on users is essential for delivering immediate value and successful product development.
